Sunday January 9, 2011

Most of Queensland seems to be under water, and outer Brisbane is no different – our creek has been going up and down like a … well, its been going up and down a *lot*!

We had a wedding yesterday, with out of town visitors staying with us for the event, so took the sedans up the road to relatives who don’t get flooded in by this level of activity. (BTW, if you are looking for beautiful acreage that doesn’t often get flooded in, this Brisbane acreage is worth looking at. Its where we parked our cars to make sure we could get out!)
As it turned out, Saturday was a lovely overcast, only a tiny bit drizzly day – about as good as it gets for a summer wedding this year – so we had over planned with the cars, but better safe than sorry.

However, today the heavens have opened and we are suffering a full deluge – I even let the chooks out so they could get under cover better! Late this afternoon the creek was over 3 metres:

So we though that was worth a few photos:

Here is the neighbours driveway.

Future bridge over neighbours drive

No, they haven’t finished it yet. I suspect they are walking over it though, when their drive in the dip is covered. Doing its job of letting water through beautifully in the meantime!

What we call the ‘low bridge’ is well under water:

Not getting through there, even with a 4wd! Maybe in a semi trailer… (Yes, I have seen semi trailer prime movers go through water that made me drop my jaw)

The ‘Green Bridge’ was just lapping:

This is the bridge over the popular swimming hole in the middle of Cedar Creek Rd.

So, we are currently flooded in – but never mind, the pantry is full and the company is good. What do we really need to leave for? ;)

Dave took a quick video down at the Green Bridge – enjoy

As should be obvious, this is a bridge and we normally drive over it, between the 2 green guard rails.

The rain has slackened and we’ve been down the road. The low bridge is now crossable, with sufficient need – we didn’t consider crossing it!

The low bridge at a much reduced level

This is taken from pretty much the same spot as the shot at the top of this entry.

The road between the Green Bridge and the Low Bridge has a small landslide on it – I’ve thought that cliff face was ripe to go for a couple of years now

Some one has pushed the worst of it off the road with a back hoe or similar.
The council trucks were waiting on the other side of the low bridge – people said they had been waiting there all day – presumably to come and clean up after the landslide
